Conformation
Showing dogs is a great sport where the thrill of competition is combined with the joy of seeing beautiful dogs.
Dog shows are one of many types of AKC dog events in which AKC registered dogs can compete. The task of a handler is to present the dog in a quiet and efficient manner. It must be done recognizing the proper presentation for the breed shown. The handler must gait the dog at a steady trot, never distracting or interfering with the judge’s vision of the dog. The handler must keep their dog’s attention without any dramatic or unnatural movements. Everything must be natural and fluid. The appearance of the dog and the handler is important. The handler should be suitably dressed for the occasion, wearing clothing that will not hinder or detract from the presentation of the dog. The dog should be groomed and trimmed in the manner associated with the breed for conformation.
A handler has to be confident and attentive in the ring, must be courteous to the judge and to fellow exhibitors. The handler is expected to handle their dog without distracting the dogs of other exhibitors. The welfare of the dog is very important and the handler always must be alert to the need of their dog. When the team of handler and dog is very close, one can see the best results.

CONFORMATION CLASS: Classes begin ~ April 13 ~ Spring Session is 6 weeks ~ Tuesdays 7:00 - 8:00
A handling class is specifically designed to teach dog owners how to handle their dog in conformation shows and fun matches. The handler learns how to control and present their dog to its best advantage. The dog and owner work toward becoming a team. Mastering the art of knowledgeable presentation is important in allowing the judge to see the qualities of a dog, during a brief time in the ring.
Bring a collar and lead (show lead) appropriate for your breed. Also bring something to bait your dog to look alert and perform well for you. This may be pieces of cheese, hot dog, or dog treats. Wear comfortable clothing & shoes with good traction for running.
